No. One of the greatest aspects of staying with us is that you can choose to stay in the woods or at the lake (and now - on Main St. in Biwabik!). See our maps for specific locations of each property - next to everything & away from it all!

+ Do you offer extended stay options?

Yes! We are happy to accommodate extended stays whenever possible. Whether it is for work, play, retreat, or a combination, we have properties to fit your needs.

+ Who is the owner and host, Shawn Callahan?

After growing up in Northern Minnesota, Shawn moved to Minneapolis to pursue a career in Mechanical Engineering. During this time, his developing interests in health and fitness led to a second career in Nutrition Science and a passion for endurance sports.

Eventually, he wandered away from the big city and back to Minnesota’s Iron Range, where he worked as a Nutritionist, Co-op deli manager, concrete countertop designer and handyman. In 2002, he purchased the Green Gate homestead and has since worked in the sustainable restoration of this historic property. As an avid endurance athlete, he was also drawn to the area’s endless recreational opportunities. When not building barns or tinkering with something, Shawn can be found skiing, running, cycling and paddling the trails around northern Minnesota. Learn more about the story of Green Gate here!

+ Is there WiFi at the properties?

All of the Stay at the Lake properties include high-speed cable internet with unlimited Wifi. The properties at our Stay in the Woods campus currently include WiFi via Starlink internet, which includes unlimited data and speeds generally fast enough for streaming, video meetings, etc. We also offer a portable, dedicated WiFi hotspot upon request for a fee of $10/day (please contact us in advance to reserve the hotspot).

+ Are your properties pet friendly?

To maintain a clean, safe space for all our guests, pets are not permitted at most of our properties. We do permit pets on a case-by-case basis at two of our Lake properties, so please contact us with your group size, dates and pet breed and we'll let you know if we can accommodate your group.
